"He [Imus] opened up the issue, but we have to look within
our own culture," said Newble, who is African-American.
"Some rappers talk the same way he did and they think
it's OK. It's not OK to degrade or disrespect our
people or our women. We have to look within ourselves to
make a conscious change in our music in the things we say.
Radio stations, TV stations, BET [Black Entertainment
Network] and everyone has to step up and become more
responsible." - cleveland.com
I read that and one thing came to my mind. That makes sense. Why is it ok for African American rappers to disrespect their own demographic? Imus is NOT the only problem. There needs to be wide and sweeping social change. It needs to start from within.
